Ralph Burchell - Greenwood

Ralph Marion Burchell, 70, of 107 Laurel Ridge Way, husband of Janet Louise Hunt Burchell, died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Hospice House.

  Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Ralph Henry and Mary Elizabeth Anderson Burchell. He was a graduate of Pt. Marion (PA) High School, Alderson Braddus College (WV) and the Tennessee Temple Seminary, Chattanooga, TN.  He was a US Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam War Era and served as a missionary in Kobe, Japan for 32 years with Baptist International Missions, Inc. of Chattanooga, TN.  Ralph was a member of East Side Baptist Church, where he faithfully served the church and taught The Men’s Sunday School Class.

  Surviving is his wife of the home; three daughters, Elisabeth Thomasson and her husband, Pastor David Thomasson, of Greenwood, Sarah Burchell of Lancaster, CA and Mary Burchell of Greenwood; two sons, Daniel Burchell and his wife, Ruth, of Macon, GA and David Burchell and his wife, Julie, of Fresno, CA and a granddaughter, Anna Grace Thomasson of Greenwood.

  Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at East Side Baptist Church with Pastor David Thomasson and Pastor Satoshi Murakami, with interpreter, officiating.  Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

  Pallbearers will be David Hallman, J. B. Calliham, Preston Upton, Heyward Duffie, Jeremy Adams and Michael Gleb.

  Honorary escort will be members of The Men’s Sunday School Class of East Side Baptist Church.

  The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

  The family is at the home.

  In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to East Side Christian School, 1908 Highway 72-221 East, Greenwood, SC 29649.

  Harley Funeral Home and Crematory ( is in charge of arrangements.
