Felix Peebles - Greenwood

Felix Larry Peebles, 88, resident of 110 Colonial Drive, husband of Sallie Dorroh Peebles, died Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Hospice House.

Born in Henry County, AL., January 13, 1925, he was a son of the late Albert Wesley and Nellie Skinner Peebles. He was a member of the first graduating class of Chipola Junior College in Marianna, FL and was also a graduate of Troy State University, Troy, AL.

 He was a veteran of WWII having served with the Army/ Air Force 68th Fighter Squadron serving in China, New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon. He was the recipient of 5 bronze stars and attained the rank of Sergeant before his discharge.

Following his service in the military, Felix formerly served as district manager of Pure Oil Co.in Florida and Alabama. He then began his career with Chemstrand in Pensacola, FL., transferring to Greenwood in 1965. Chemstrand later became Monsanto from which Felix retired in 1985.

Felix was a charter member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, and was named a Life Member of the Church Council after several decades of support and service. 

Felix was predeceased by his first wife, Jimmie Gay Peebles; a daughter, Angie Peebles; brothers, Carlton, Bill, Ellsworth and Whigham Peebles and a sister, Edna Brannon.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a son, Larry Dennis Peebles of Atlanta, GA; four step-children, Diane (Kevin) Wicker, Dell Miller, Robert (Katrina) Dorroh, Jr., and Dan (Laurie) Dorroh; a sister, Betty Hooks of Okmulgee, OK; seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30PM Tuesday at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. Barrett Alewine and Rev. Ryan Spurrier officiating.

Pallbearers will be David Brannon, Ben Wicker, Chris Shealy, Roger Chapman, Al Langley, Joe Campbell and Charlie Watkins.

The family is at the home in Belle Meade and will receive friends in the church social hall from 1 to 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C., 29646 or to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 550 Highway 72 Bypass NW, Greenwood, S.C. 29649.
