A Greenwood man has been charged with burglary in connection with an incident at K-Mart after he was arrested the same night for public drunk.
According to reports from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office and the Greenwood Police Department, Deputies with GCSO responded to a call at K-Mart just before 11 p.m. Saturday night after an alarm was set off at the store. Deputies were met by the store manager at the rear of the store where a door was open.
According to the reports, deputies went to the front of the store and worked their way to the back, finding no one else inside the store. At that time, they were notified that GPD had arrested a man, later identified as Giles Carl Braswell Jr., 54, of 1020 New Market St., near the Hickory Point store on Montague Ave. The reports indicate that Braswell was arrested for public drunk after being observed stumbling through the parking lot of La Hacienda and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
A search of Braswell’s coat turned up a K-Mart sale sticker for a 26” HDTV. Deputies confirmed with city officers that Braswell was the man on the surveillance footage seen taking two televisions out the back door of K-Mart. The reports state that Braswell went in the store during business hours and remained inside once the store closed.
Braswell has been charged with 2nd degree burglary, petit larceny and public drunk.
