GPD investigating two weekend shooting incidents

Gunshots erupted two more times inside the city limits of Greenwood over the past weekend. Both incidents occurred at about 4 a.m. Sunday morning; one near the intersection of Highway 34 and Blythe Road and the other at New Haven Apartments.

According to reports from the Greenwood Police Department, the first incident occurred just before 4 a.m. Sunday morning when witnesses say unknown assailants driving a black SUV opened fire on another vehicle containing four females. One round struck the passenger window of the vehicle, shattering the window and causing multiple lacerations to the face and shoulder of the female seated in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The injury on the shoulder required several stitches.

According to the reports, police found approximately 15 .40 caliber shell casings near the incident location. Surveillance video from the convenience store on the counter confirmed the accounts of the four females in the vehicle. The video showed the Black SUV open fire on the victim’s vehicle before speeding off down New Market Street.

According to the reports, the second incident occurred a few minutes after 4 a.m. when shots were fired into a vehicle sitting at New Haven Apartments. The victim told police that he was dropping his cousin off at the apartment complex when he heard a loud pop and glass shattering. The victim told police that he could see the vehicle heading toward New Market Street. The victim told police that he then drove over curb and to Burfield Apartments, where he met with police.

According to the reports, police observed the front window to be busted out, a flat rear tire and a quarter-sized dent above the flat tire on the rear fender. The police found three .357 caliber shell casings where the incident occurred.

Both incidents are still under investigation by the Greenwood Police Department.

Sure has been a lot of shootings and violence going around in Greenwood. Since these people black, white, green, orange it really isn't THE POINT we need to send these to the front lines. I know for a fact that those young men and women made a choice to defend OUR COUNTRY AND OUR FREEDOM, so that these drug induced or just plain evil people can run free. I do have a gun and I won't give it up because I made the CHOICE to DEFEND MYSELF. We could save a lot of tax payers monies by putting these idiot sticks on the front line so that they can shoot to their hearts content. That way our Sons and Daughters can come home. I write this to the Memory Of Thomas Wilson and to His Mother Julie whose Son was 21 when he was killed.
