Apparently people in Greenwood County do not realize it is against the law to let dogs run loose. I have problems with dogs up here at Hodges all the time. We had to install a chain link fence to house dogs that we didn't even own because someone either let them run loose or put them out. I was told by Animal Control out of Greenwood that I would be responsible if they caused a motor cycle to wreck after he had played with the dogs to get them chasing him. This was in 1986 and cost us over $4,500 for the fence. I now have a compound enclosure fence surrounding all my property but dogs have dug under my fence and killed my goats several times.

Animal Control has told me that as long as they are on my property inside my fence to just shoot them. Anyone letting dogs run free to cause damage to other peoples property should be charged with the animal cruelty instead of the injured party being charged in this case. He should place law suit against the admitted owner and make him pay for all his court cost and damages because of this incident in which he was arrested for running over them.

Similar incident has already been tried in court and the dog owner lost because he let the dogs run free ...... setting precedent. What if this had been his children instead of his pets that the dogs attacked?
