Rev Bennie L Ridlehoover, 89, resident of 113 Sherwood Lane, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2013.
Born in Greenwood County on July 2, 1923, he was the son of the late Bennie L Ridlehoover, Sr. and Ruth Sprouse Ridlehoover. He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Bancroft. After completing his service with the Navy, he was employed by Greenwood Mills. In 1952, he felt called to serve God and attended Erskine Theological Seminary and, until his retirement in 2010, spent the remainder of his life as a devoted and faithful servant of God as an ordained Baptist minister for Providence Baptist Church, Hodges, SC; Mountain Springs Baptist Church, Piedmont, SC; Selma Baptist Church, Woodruff, SC; Bold Springs Baptist Church, Callison, SC; and Horeb Baptist Church, Bradley, SC.
He is survived by 3 children; Ruth Ouzts of Greenwood, with whom he made his home, Alice Hill of Weston, FL, and Bennie Ridlehoover III of Sulphur, OK; six grandchildren; Brad Ouzts of Raleigh, NC, Jana Ouzts Smith of Columbia, Kevin Hill of Weston, FL, Bennie Ridlehoover IV of Piedmont, Mark Ridlehoover of Spartanburg, Rick Ridlehoover of Spartanburg ; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters. He felt especially blessed by his great-great-granddaughter Natalie of Greenwood who loved her ‘Papa’ and brought him many hours of joy over the last couple of years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Dove Ridlehoover, and youngest daughter, Judi Ridlehoover.
The family wishes to express their appreciation for the many friends who visited him in his final days. Your kind words, prayers, and shared memories were of great comfort during a very difficult time.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 13th from 1pm – 3pm with funeral services to follow immediately at Blyth Funeral Home in Greenwood, SC. Private family burial will be in Bold Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bennie Ridlehoover, IV, Mark Ridlehoover, Rick Ridlehoover, Kevin Hill, Brad Ouzts, Billy Watson, Rudolph Price and Hunter Ouzts.
Honorary escort will be the Horeb Baptist Church family.
