More businesses hit by fraudsters

There are now at least two additional victims in a case of alleged bank fraud that has already hit the Greenwood County Clerk of Court’s office for over $200,000, according to officials at the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office.

A report released Thursday afternoon by the Greenwood Police Department revealed that the 3-year-old child who died last week after receiving a severe head injury tested positive for cocaine as did his 6-month-old sister and his mother.

The Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) was established by Public Law 93-408 and is a summer employment program for young men and women between the ages of 15 and 18 to work, learn, and earn together on projects that further the development and conservation of the natural and cultural resources of The United States.

Lander students to benefit from local bank scholarship

First Citizens Bank in Greenwood has created a new scholarship at Lander University.

The First Citizens Bank Scholarship will benefit students who are South Carolina residents and are enrolled in Lander’s College of Business and Public Affairs. The bank has also agreed to provide mentoring opportunities for Lander business students who might be considering a career in banking and investment in general. The relationship with students was described as a personal level of engagement with business leaders.

Fallen Power Line Block Hwy 34

A Greenwood County Sheriff Deputy blocks off Hwy 34 this morning just before 9am after finding a power line down with wires crossing the road.  Apparently the storm this morning caused a power pole to fall.  The road was block for less than two hours as Duke Energy made the necessary repairs.  Some residents were without power for several hours until repairs were complete.

Run to the Rescue 5k - May 9, 2015

The Humane Society of Greenwood (HSoG) is pleased to announce the Run to the Rescue 5K, a supporter-organized event to raise money and awareness for homeless and unwanted animals in Greenwood County.  The race will be held at the American Legion Post 20, located at 806 Calhoun Avenue, on Saturday, May 9, 2015. The race will begin at 8:00 a.m. with race day registration starting at 7:00 a.m. Pre-registration ends Wednesday, May 6, 2015.

Laurens Woman Joins JDLH Board

McCORMICK--Gov. Nikki Haley has appointed Melissa Tilden of Laurens to serve on the John de la Howe School Board of Trustees.

The Raleigh, NC native is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she majored in French. She currently assists in a self-contained, learning disabled class at Laurens Middle School. She has also taught French at the high school level, worked in the banking industry and owned and operated a bookstore for 15 years.

Greenwood Organization benefits from CVS Health Foundation $5 Million Community Health Investment Improves Access, Affordability

Woonsocket, RI – The CVS Health Foundation, a private foundation created by CVS Health Corporation (NYSE: CVS), today announced 55 new grant recipients as part of its multi-year, $5 million commitment to increase access to health care in communities nationwide.
